Hours/Week & Schedule: 35 hrs/week; 9AM -5PM Monday to Friday
Hourly Wage: $28.15
Planned Start Date & End Date: November 11, 2019 – November 10, 2020 (renewable)

PRIMARY DUTIES

The Chang laboratory at McGill University in Montreal, Canada, is looking for a highly motivated and detail-oriented research assistant to work on understanding the molecular regulation of muscle stem cell biology in health and disease. The successful candidate will be exposed to a variety of research techniques including primary stem cell isolation and culture, gene and protein expression analyses, molecular cloning, protein interaction studies, and microscopy. She/he will be part of a dynamic research team and will be responsible for conducting experiments and generating research results, as well as laboratory organization and ensuring day to day lab functioning.

  • Perform independent research projects: experimental design, data generation and analysis, troubleshooting and problem resolution
  • In charge of ordering, receiving and stocking supplies, keeping inventory and records of reagents and consumables
  • Ensure proper maintenance and training for users of laboratory equipment
  • Provides training in basic techniques and lab safety for new laboratory members
  • Attend weekly lab meetings and weekly one on one meetings with supervisor

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

For Research Assistant – minimum requirement: Master’s Degree
– Master’s degree in a relevant field of study
– 3 years of laboratory research experience, lab managing experience is an asset

OTHER QUALIFYING SKILLS & ABILITIES

– Ideal candidates will have prior experience in mammalian cell culture, mice handling and molecular biology techniques
– Exceptional organization skills and attention to detail
– Excellent written and oral communication skills
– Great interpersonal skills, an effective team player and willingness to supervise/mentor students
