Results of the SCN 2022-2025 Round 2 Research Funding Competition

On May 16, the Stem Cell Network allocated $8.92 million to support 24 research projects and clinical trials across the country, with 23 partner organizations committing $9.44 million of in-kind or cash support. We would like to congratulate the MRM researchers that were awarded in this funding competition:

  • Colin Crist received an Impact Award for his project: Shining light on muscle regeneration: MuSC mediated delivery of optogenetic contractile properties to skeletal muscle
  • Ma’n Zawati is a co-investigator in two SCN-funded projects led by Lucie Germain, and Véronique Moulin (Université Laval)
  • Bartha Knoppers is a co-investigator in a project led by Lucie Germain (Université Laval): Clinical trial of cultured epithelial corneal autografts for the treatment of Canadians with limbal stem cell deficiency
  • Jonathan Kimmelman, is a co-investigator in a project being led by Manoj Lalu (Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, Ontario): Developing guidance to translate promising cell therapies to early phase clinical trials
  • Bettina Willie is a co-investigator in a project led by Fabio Rossi (University of British Columbia): Bone targeted EP4 agonists as therapeutics for muscular dystrophy
