Results of the MRM Internal Funding Spring 2022 Competition

The MRM Network is pleased to announce the results of the Spring 2022 MRM Internal Funding Competition.

The MRM Internal Funding supports research that seeks novel forward-looking insights and discovery into a basic understanding of stem cells biology, which ultimately translates into novel technologies and regenerative medicine. It aims at facilitating the use of the numerous quality platforms built across McGill University by funding pilot research projects using these MRM-affiliated core facilities.

The MRM wants to encourage the work of our young scientists, so for the first time, we have opened the competition to MRM Postdoctoral researchers and the best-ranked application was selected for funding.

It is with great pleasure that we announce the 4 Awardees:

Sabah Hussain, Department of Medicine, McGill University Health Centre (MUHC), for his project: ATAD2: A novel regulator of muscle stem cell differentiation, involving the McGill Genome Centre.

Wei-Hsiang Huang, Department of Neurology & Neurosurgery, the Neuro, for his project: Developing human induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived neuron models for Smith-Magenis syndrome (SMS), involving the Early Drug Discovery Unit (EDDU).

Guojun Chen, Department of Biomedical Engineering, Rosalind and Morris Goodman Cancer Institute (GCI), for his project: Bioresponsive nanoformulations for CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing involving the GCI Flow Cytometry Innovation Platform and the Advanced Bioimaging Facility (ABIF).

Louise Thiry, Department of Neurology & Neurosurgery, Postdoctoral Fellow in the Stifani Lab at the Neuro, for her project: To generate respiration-controlling motor neurons from human iPSCs for motor neuron disease modeling and neural network repair, involving the Early Drug Discovery Unit (EDDU).

We would like to congratulate all the winners and participants in this competition and to extend the warmest thanks to the members of the MRM Funding & Infrastructure Committee for their evaluation of all the applications.
