Title: “Mechanotransduction through integrins: basic mechanisms and roles in vascular disease

Cells sense the biochemical and biophysical properties of their extracellular matrix environment through integrin-mediated adhesions. The resultant signals play major roles in guiding development, physiology, and normal tissue remodeling required for homeostasis. Conversely, altered integrin-dependent signals contribute to pathological tissue remodeling in cancer, fibrosis, atherosclerosis, and aneurysms. I will present our recent work toward understanding fundamental, biophysical mechanisms of force transmission and mechanotransduction through integrins, and the roles of matrix remodeling and integrin signaling in vascular disease.

This seminar will be given online via Zoom.
